Inflammation
Inflammation is our immune system response that protects us from infection and to clear any damaged tissues. If inflammation is left uncontrolled, it may also cause extensive damage to other healthy tissues.
Uncontrolled inflammation has been associated with higher risk of heart disease, neurodegenerative Alzheimer's disease, and joint inflammation or arthritis (ref.1). It is also associated with the increased expression of melanin (i.e., skin pigment useful to protect us from harmful ultraviolet light or UV), but also unfortunately contributing to our skin's uneven hyperpigmentation. It is thus important to monitor our body's inflammation level and reduce factors that may aggravate this. Inflammation level can be surveyed by testing our C-reactive protein (CRP) level in our blood sample (ref. 1)
